The World Awaits!
Ecclesiastes 3:1…To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven
People today are saying the church has lost its relevancy, yet the church seems to be obsessed with being relevant. We go to great lengths making people feel welcome and comfortable. But could it be that we have become more like the world and strayed from the one thing that is most important? Knowing Jesus and making Him known. Could our strategy be completely wrong? Are we making our impression of how others see us greater than it should be? Our influence on the world should never be at the expense of why we gather. It’s never about entertainment but it’s what we have come to expect. John Stott, a British theologian, once said, ” It is not possible to be faithful and popular simultaneously.” Today, in wanting to influence the culture the church has lost that ability by becoming like the culture – losing the power and becoming irrelevant to those seeking something more, something with meaning. Those seeking answers. Church today should be about prayer, praise, fellowship, encouragement and inspiration from the Word and from others so when you leave that environment every Sunday, you are taking something with you that will last through the week – faith, hope and love! That assurance becomes the anchor most people need in these days.
Today, it is critical that the church move to becoming counter-cultural by commitment to the truth of Scripture without compromise. Standing firm against an onslaught of erroneous teachings, dangerous doctrines and traditions of men. There are many souls hurting and hungry, looking for answers, something to give their lives meaning and purpose. Will we be the ones to make a difference? The world awaits.
So, to everything there is a season, and the season has come for the church to become different. Different from the world and in doing so attract the world to it. A time for every purpose under heaven, a time to realize that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is revolutionary, it has not changed or weakened with age. It doesn’t need propped up or defending. And its purpose? To live as Jesus lived – a revolutionary transformed life!
