Something to Live For

“Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.” — Colossians 1:28

People today are saying the church has lost its relevancy, yet the church seems to be obsessed with being relevant. We go to great lengths making people feel welcome and comfortable. But could it be that we have become more like the world and strayed from the one thing that is most important?

John Stott, the British theologian, once observed that it is not possible to be faithful and popular at the same time. In wanting to influence the culture, the church has too often lost that ability by becoming like the culture — losing its power, and becoming irrelevant to the very people searching for God.

Hungry souls are looking for God — not social engagement or entertainment.

A season to be different

So, to everything there is a season, and the season has come for the church to become different. Different from the world and, in doing so, to attract the world to it. A time for every purpose under heaven is to realize that the gospel is revolutionary. It has not changed or weakened with age. It is transformational, and the world awaits.
