Realizing Your Purpose

Many people go through life without a clear understanding of why they are here or why they were created and most of us at one time or another has asked the question, “What is my purpose?”

Let’s define what purpose is. It is the REASON for which something is done or created or for which something exists. Romans 12:1-2 says this:

               I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.  NKJV

The word beseech here is a powerful word, Paul is not just suggesting, or implying he is urgently and fervently asking that we do something. He is imploring us that we present our bodies a living sacrifice. He calls it holy and acceptable and your reasonable service to God.

So, what is this “living sacrifice” look like? I believe that he is telling us that all of life becomes “spiritual worship.” Every aspect of everything we do. Our purpose and the purpose of all human life in God’s eyes is that Christ would be seen in every aspect and glorified in all we do. Think about that, Paul calls it reasonable service. Ephesians 2:10 tells us:

For we are His workmanship, created IN Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

So, how do we do this? Paul tells us exactly how to do life. He continues in Romans by telling us to not conform to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. You begin to discover the way God thinks about you. You believe what He says about you. His promises, His Grace, His Son, His Word. It becomes a revelation that there can be no compromise and your life becomes a spiritual sacrifice pleasing to God.

God created every life with purpose and meaning and your purpose is your contribution to advance His Kingdom. So, live your life with intention and finish your race!

Jeremiah 29:11 says that God knows the plans He has for you to give you a future and a hope. May all you do bring glory to His name.
